Tips for a smooth recovery: soft diets, good hygiene, and managing sensitivity.
Avoid sugary or starchy snacks to protect your teeth from decay, and brush or floss after consuming them. Stick to a soft diet for the first 48 hours, chewing on the opposite side and avoiding hard, sticky, or crumbly foods like raw veggies, nuts, or popcorn. Sensitivity, swelling, or discomfort is normal but should subside within 24-48 hours.
After a major procedure, discomfort can often be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers. Take medication on a schedule and before pain peaks, but never exceed the recommended dose. Toothaches may result from decay, a loose filling, or a crack and can sometimes require root canal treatment to relieve pain and save the tooth. Avoid activities like using straws, spitting, vigorous swishing, or smoking, as they can disrupt the healing process. If pain persists, book an appointment with us for a proper diagnosis.
Use a soft-bristle toothbrush to gently clean your teeth and gums. If you’re unsure which toothbrush or toothpaste suits your needs, contact us for personalized recommendations. For tender gums after a procedure, clean the area gently with brushing, flossing, and rinsing with warm saltwater (1/2 tsp of salt in 8 oz of warm water) to speed recovery.
