A dental emergency can lead to serious complications if untreated. Contact us immediately at (905) 388-8888 or via our contact form. Prevent emergencies with good oral hygiene and regular check-ups.
Wear a Mouth Guard: Protect your teeth during contact sports like hockey, football, or boxing with a mouth guard to prevent injuries like bleeding gums or chipped teeth.
Eat Carefully: Avoid hard foods like candy, nuts, or crunchy meats that can crack or chip teeth. Use caution or remove these items from your diet to reduce the risk.
Avoid Chewing Non-Edibles: Habits like nail-biting or chewing pens can crack teeth. Replace these habits with sugarless gum to stimulate saliva and clean bacteria.
Rinse your mouth with warm water and use floss to remove food debris. Apply a cold compress to reduce swelling, but avoid placing aspirin or painkillers on your gums to prevent tissue burns.
Rinse the area and save any pieces of the tooth. Stop bleeding with gauze and use a cold compress to reduce swelling and discomfort.
Place sugarless gum or dental cement in the cavity temporarily until you can visit our office. Avoid gum with sugar to prevent discomfort.
If experiencing pain, apply clove oil with a cotton swab to the sensitive area. You may temporarily reattach the crown using dental cement, toothpaste, or denture adhesive until you see us.
Dislodged teeth occur when a tooth is pushed out of its socket. Apply a cold compress and take over-the-counter pain relief. Root canal treatment may be necessary for permanent teeth, while baby teeth will be monitored carefully.
Handle the tooth gently by the crown, rinse it with water (no soap), and try placing it back in the socket. If that’s not possible, store the tooth in milk and seek immediate dental care. Time is critical to saving the tooth.
Control bleeding by rinsing with saltwater and applying pressure with gauze or a tea bag for 15-20 minutes. Use a cold compress for 5-10 minutes. If bleeding persists, contact our office or visit the emergency room.
An abscess is a serious infection around a tooth root or gum that may spread if untreated. Rinse with saltwater to ease discomfort and bring pus to the surface. Look for pimple-like swelling and contact us immediately for treatment.
If bleeding continues an hour after extraction, call our office. Bite on gauze over the site to manage bleeding and reduce discomfort.
Monitor your mouth for bleeding, sensitivity, pain, discoloration, sores, or lumps. Report any abnormalities to us for evaluation and treatment.
